Posted June 7th, 2008

2007 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series National Champion, West Salem, Wisconsin’s own, Steve Carlson (In-Car) was the fastest car of the first Practice Session at his home track. Unfortunately, he never got the chance to race as Mother Nature intervened and forced ASALMS and LaCrosse Officials to cancel the River Run 100. (Chuck Gonzalez Photo)

By Matt Prieur-ASA Late Model Series
West Salem, Wisconsin (Saturday, June 7, 2008): Mother Nature returned to the LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway after visiting earlier in the morning with more Severe Showers and Thunderstorms putting a damper on what was to be the fourth race of the 2008 season for the ASALMS Northern Division.

Plus the addition of a tornado watch, which later became a warning, left ASA Late Model Series Northern Division and LaCrosse Officials no choice but to officially cancel the River Run 100.

A suitable make-up date was not able to be reached between the ASALMS and LaCrosse Officials, so therefore the River Run 100 has been officially cancelled!

The 30 teams that did show up to LaCrosse this weekend will receive 20 Drivers and Owners Points for making the trip to West Salem, Wisconsin.

The ASALMS Northern Division will return to the western Wisconsin speed plant as part of the 39th annual Oktoberfest Weekend on Saturday, October 4, 2008 for the 2008 ASALMS Northern Division Season Championships / Oktoberfest 100.

In the meantime, the ASALMS Northern Division contingent will take a three week break to regroup before what will now be the fourth race of the 2008 ASALMS Northern Division Season.

The Light up the Night 150 is set for Saturday, July 5, 2008 as the ASALMS Northern Division will celebrate the Fourth of July Holiday at the wicked fast high-banks of the I-70 (MO) Speedway, located East of Kansas City in Odessa, Missouri.

The Light up the Night 150 Entry Form will be available beginning on Wednesday, June 18, 2008.

Joining the ASALMS Challenge Division and USPRO Cup Series will be a Berlin Raceway support divisions special event on Friday, June 13, 2008 featuring the De-Jay Slick Truck Pro Stocks, Instant Cash Advance Sportsmen, Burnips Equipment Four-Cylinders, and a School Bus Race to highlight the Friday evening card!

On Saturday the ASALMS Challenge Division and USPRO Cup Series share the spotlight at the historic Marne, Michigan Fairgrounds speed plant!

About the ASA Late Model Series:
The development of the ASA Late Model Series was formed in 2003, with the joining of the USPRO Series in Michigan and the ASA Touring Late Models, originally created by short track promotional legend Rex Robbins in 2004.

Over the past five seasons, the ASALMS sanctioning body has developed into the cornerstone program for Crate Motor / Template Body Late Model racing throughout the United States, exuding a passion for short track racing that has elevated the program to be tagged as “America’s Premier Short Track Series.”

The ASALMS will continue to move forward, bringing that passion to fans, competitors and tracks nationwide as it continues to provide a platform for exciting and affordable asphalt late model racing, while including a plethora of racers, from the veteran weekend competitors all the way to the stars of tomorrow’s national series.

About the USPRO Cup Series
The USPRO Cup Series is a cost cutting traveling series under the sanctioning of the ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts. Shorter races with a 2-tire rule and shorter travel for the teams will allow the USPRO Cup Series to give drivers wanting to eventually move up into the ASALMS, a taste of what a Premiere Traveling Series is like.
